I graduated with a Journalism/Radio-TV-Film degree in 1975 from the University of Kansas. Upon graduation, I married classmate, Linda Detlefson. We have two daughters and two grandchildren.

Q: Current Relationship Status?
A: I was fortunate to meet the girl who would become my wife in the 7th grade at West Jr. High School. Linda Detlefson was one of my closest friends before becoming my wife on June 7, 1975.
Q: Any Children?
A: Our oldest daughter Lauren graduated from Emporia State and is a nurse practitioner. Our youngest daughter Jamie graduated from the University of Kansas and runs her own business. Linda and I feel fortunate to have both of the girls still living in the KC area.
Q: Any Pets?
A: Currently the Barber household harbors a shelter rescued Persion cat. Linda calls the cat Sadie, but she does answer to Shovel-Face when I beckon!
Q: Military History?
A: None
Q: Work History?
A: I originally thought I would like a career in radio, but after serving an internship at KSNT TV in Topeka, KS during my senior year at KU, I was hooked on television. After working at KCKCC, I began a career in video sales. I also did video production work locally. I retired in January of 2011.
Q: Any post-Wyandotte education?
A: I attended Kansas City Kansas Jr. College during the 1971-1972 school year. After attending K-State University for the fall 1973 semester, I transferred to the University of Kansas. I obtained my Journalism (Radio-TV-Film) degree from the University of Kansas, graduating in 1975. I served a televsion internship at Channel 27 in Topeka, KS
Q: What are your hobbies?
A: Fishing and biking are my main hobbies these days. Linda and I both enjoy getting into the convertible and running around to 'flea' markets. "Old" classmate, Bryan Hunter, is a frequent companion on fishing outings. Our competitive spirit is still high as we endeavor to see who can catch the smallest fish!
Q: Favorite Movie(s) or type of movies?
A: As with music, I enjoy just about any type of movie style. I might watch a documentary one moment and then switch to a classic western. To this day, I still love to watch old movies that I remember seeing at The Granada (Absent Minded Professor, The Midland (Paint Your Wagon), or The Electric Theater (Hard Days's Night.)
Q: Favorite type of music?
A: Oldies are still my favorites, but there are not too many styles of music that I dislike. I have maintained an extensive vinyl, CD and digital collection over the years.
Q: Favorite High School Memory?
A: Ah! So many good times to remember! When trying to choose one, I smile at the memories from the state basketball tournaments, morning social hall gatherings and even JA dances (if anyone would like to see a roster from our senior year, let me know. I actually have one)! I feel fortunate that Linda and I have been able to keep in touch with so many of our old school chums. My parents gave me a copy of some old 8mm films and there was a brief shot of my 18th birthday party from May, 1971. Some very young looking friends identified included Eddie Mullins, Bryan Hunter, Tim Seichepine, Randy Kancel and Keith Jones. To help jog memories, I have included a number of pictures from past reunions, etc., on the 'Now Photos' of this profile.
