Nancy (Greenburg) Anglen
Wyandotte High School - Class of 1958

In Loving Memory.

Nancy Ruth Anglen was born to Aubrey S. and Ruth (Langford) Anglen on March 15, 1940 in a house on the SW corner of 16th & Bunker in Kansas City, Kansas. She grew up in the KCK area, where she attended schools including Wyandotte High School. She became best friends in high school with Linda (Green) Sessions. They remained best friends until Linda's passing on May 3, 1995. She married Charles (Buzz) Spalding Jr. on Oct. 4, 1957. Born of this union were: Linda Ann, Kathleen Marie, Mary Ruth, Jean (Sandy) Elizabeth and Charles III (Tony). Buzz was in the Air Force at the time of their marriage, so she had the good fortune to live many different places. Among these were: Virginia, England, Illinois and California, where she met another one of her best friends, Jane Rowland. She also visited Paris during this marriage. She met another friend, Linda Brown, before moving to England. After their return and Buzz was stationed in Alaska, she and Linda became very close friends. Buzz and Nancy divorced in 1968. In April of 1972, she married Lewis Lee Britain in Miami OK, after moving to the SE part of Kansas. Born of this marriage, were: Scott Lewis and Don L. She learned how to fish, hunt raccoon, dig snakeroot and clam, among other things. Lew and Nancy divorced in 1982. On October 15, 1982, Nancy married Noel (Storm) Greenburg in Miami OK. She gained a stepson with this union: H. Laverne (Butch) Britain. Although Storm preceded her in death on June 24, 1987, she told me that he was the love of her life...there would never be anyone that could fill his shoes. In 1988, Nancy received her GED, then, in 1990, went on to graduate with honors from Independence Community College in Independence KS, with an Associate's Degree in Applied Sciences. She spent many years waiting tables at various restaurants and working at manufacturing companies such as ACC and Cobalt Boats. Injury and illness disabled her later in life and she became a homemaker. She had many hobbies throughout her life. Knitting, selling Tri-Chem and crocheting Poopy Ducks were some of her past-times. Her favorite holiday was Christmas and she loved decorating for it...even the bathroom! I think the reason she loved Christmas so much was, this was one time during the year that the whole family came home. She loved having family around her. Her passion was Bingo. I don't know how or when it started, but once it did, that was it! She was always ready for a good game, even travelling out of state if she had to! A bingo hall was where she met another one of her greatest friends, Debbie Fouts. Nancy left us in the wee hours of July 16, 2004, and we'll never be the same. She is greatly missed by her sons, Charles (Tony) Spalding (Linda Sue), Scott Britain (Missy) and Don Britain (Cheryl); her daughters, Linda Kirchoff (Michael), Kathleen Brandon (Stephen), Mary Batye (Ron) and Jean (Sandy) Michael (Randy); and her stepson, H. Laverne (Butch) Britain (Mary Ann). She left 19 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren that she loved tremendously. She will always be Granny Nanny to them. Since her departure, there have been 5 more great-grandchildren born that will never get to know their Granny Nanny. All of her siblings survived her, four brothers: Paul Anglen (Carol), Charles Anglen (Laura), Gary Anglen (Rachel) and Stephen Anglen (Beth), and three sisters: Peggy Noah (Clay), Patty Jones and Cathy Easterly (Jerry). A star has *surely* fallen from the sky... She was predeceased by her father, Aubrey (Ben), her mother, Ruth, and three grandchildren: Jamie Gail Henderson and two unnamed babies. Her brother, Charles, has since passed. Cause of death: Colon cancer (embolism after surgery to remove ruptured gall bladder). We knew she was leaving. We didn't know it would be so soon.
