A few months after graduation, I left Kansas. I have only returned to live there for a total of approximately a year. I soon called Louisiana home, specifically New Orleans. I met and married my husband, Jamal Abyad there in 1978. I waited until I was 29 years old to make that huge commitment. Unfortunately, he passed away 3 years ago this month with lung cancer. We had 30 fantastic years together. He was a wonderful husband, the love of my life, and my best friend. Jamal was born and raised in Syria, but soon became a patriotic American citizen. He loved his adopted country and mostly loved becoming a Christian after having been raised Muslim. He was a very special man; exceptionally humble, loved and highly respected by all who knew him. I have enough acreage that I was able to bury my husband here on our property. For whatever reason, this is comforting to me. Jamal worked in the dredging industry, which kept us traveling for a few years; all in the southern states. However, in our early years I was fortunate to be able to travel internationally. Syria, Greece, Cyprus, and a few other interesting places. We built a business together that I still own and operate today. Jamal was my hero, and life certainly hasn't been the quality it was when he was alive. This past year, however, I began to find the strength to pull myself together and am trying to live again. I was planning to visit Syria this summer, after a long absence. However, as I'm sure everyone knows, all is not well there at this time. I am, and have been for many years, a Sunday School teacher at the Church of Christ. This is what I enjoy most in life. I have been living in the central part of Louisiana since 1984. My home is in Pineville Louisiana. Although I am only approx. 10 miles or less from the local Wal Mart, it is still a very country atmosphere. I have lots of critters that I share this land with. I even have a wild alligator in my pond. I can look out of my front door and see deer in my yard; along with countless other creatures. At night I hear the coyotes, and many other animals. Some that I can identify, and some that I have no idea what they might be. LOL! I am on facebook under the name Judith E. Abyad. May God bless you and yours!
