07/07/05 Retired from Sheriffs Dept. with the rank of Major. Hobbies include fishing, writing,Ham Radio operator, shooting, clowning. Have three grown kids, one grandchild (who is perfect),and a beautiful wife of 38 years. 04/29/07 Time for an update---- Since I signed in last I have been blessed with two beautiful grand-daughters. My youngest daughter and her husband adopted two sisters and they are magnificent. One just turned 3 and the other is 4 (4 and 1/2 if you ask her). They are African-American. I have done my grandfatherly duty so far by spoiling them rotten, which irritates the heck out of my daughter but I don't care. The girls have learned two things for sure about me--I always have candy in my pocket for them, and they have me wrapped around their little finger. I have been very blessed by God to have them added to the family and I thank him continually for it. They have been with us for about a year now so my spoiling has really just started. One of the things I have been involved in since I retired is "child care". I work as a child-care provider for before and after school kids in the 3rd thru 5th grades (sometimes it can get more challenging than when I was in law enforcement (lol)). I also sub for pre-school and 1st and 2nd graders. I love them all even though they work so diligently at seeking out my last nerve. I have also become more active in my church lately and have been blessed greatly by it. On the sad side of my life, I lost a sister last year to Alzhiemers (spelling probably wrong). I miss her terribly. I hope everything is going well for those reading this. God bless you all. 08/20/07 Lost my father Sunday August 12th. I am just now able to discuss it, it has been very painful. There are some things you have control over in this world and some things you don't, so you pick up the pieces and move on. That's when you find out how much faith you have in God's ability to heal your spirit. God bless you dad, you are and will be missed.12/25/07 Karen lost her mother this morning.Norma was a fine Christian woman and I was proud to have her as a mother-in-law. God has added a bright new star in the heavens with her presence.06/20/08 Turned 61 today. Man does time fly, seems like only yesterday I was 60 (lol). Birthdays are different when you start to reach my age. Instead of celebrating your birth, you celebrate survival. My wife refuses to put candles on my cake this year for fear of setting off the smoke alarm. Besides, if she did add the candles there wouldn't be enough room on the cake for the icing. What scares me the most are those who say you are only as old as you feel---that would make me about 90.Hmmmm, guess maybe I should have Geritol instead of wine with my birthday dinner.God bless all the old Geezers in the world.04/19/12 At 8:34 PM I once again became a grandfather. Welcome Zackary Oliver Grant Bond. Be prepared for some real spoiling from Grandpa!

Q: Current Relationship Status?
A: Married
Q: Any Children?
A: Three
Q: Any Pets?
A: I have three cats, and believe it or not, two goats (don't laugh, they make great pets).
Q: Military History?
A: None-Feet too flat and blood pressure too high
Q: Work History?
A: Worked for Rock Island Railroad for 15 years as a journeyman machinist working on diesel locomotives. It was a dirty but fun job. The railroad closed it's doors and I found myself out of work and trying to support a family.I finally got hired on the Sheriff's Dept as a Detention Officer. The Sheriffs Dept turned out to be a wonderful career move and I got the opportunity to serve in many capacities. I was transfered to the front office from the Detention Center and given the responsibility of overseeing 97 reserve officers. After a couple of years I was made crime prevention officer, giving talks to schools and the community. I later was given the position of Training Director and Range Master. From there I was made Warden of the Detention Center and given the responsibilities of it's operations and planning of a future new facility. I retired from the Sheriff's Dept. after 24 years of service with the rank of Major.I will always look back at my career in law enforcement with pride that I was able to be part of it. In my heart I will always be a cop, that stays with you.I still teach training courses to the new recruit deputies so I can be a part of their development in this great career. I now enjoy working with kids as a Child-care provider at Piper Elementary School in a "before and after" school program. It is a lot of fun and I love it.My goal is to be a mentor and role-model for them.
Q: Any post-Wyandotte education?
A: Apprenticeship as journeyman machinist for the railroad. Many, many, many hours of training and certifications while on the Sheriff's Dept.(to include FBI Firearms Instructor training,Law Enforcement Academy Certification, Correctional Acedemy Certification, Certification as a correctional officer training instructor, varied courses in crime scene investigation, interrogation procedures, evidence preservation, law enforcement marshal arts, reading fingerprints, etc., etc.). I have taken two clown academy courses and attended many seminars on clowning, magic, face-painting, etc. Studied and successfuly passed my test to become a Ham Radio Operator with a "Technician" Classification license. Since getting in the child-care field of work I have to complete no less than 10 hours of State approved child-care training per year in order to keep my child-care certification valid. And finally, last but not least, I have successfully completed a course that certifies me as an Official BBQ Judge through the Kansas City Barbeque Society. Now, with all that, I'll bet you can guess which training I liked the best. You guessed it, the BBQ Judge training.
Q: What are your hobbies?
A: Semi-professional clown (member of Clowns Of America International,World Clown Association, and Clown Alley 92), writing (poetry and short articles). Authored the book "The Almost Perfect, But Not Quite, But Getting Close, Clown Guide". It is an instructional book, done in a humorous tone to help new clowns get started on the right foot (or left foot if that's the one they start out on (sorry, I can't control my puns)).I love to paint (art, not houses), but I haven't had the time to pursue it lately.I am also a Licensed Ham Radio Operator (I hold a Technician class license). But my real passion is shooting. I love to go to the range and punch holes in paper. Unfortunately, my almost sixty year old eyes don't let me hit the bullseye as often as I used to (at least that's my story and I'm sticking to it).
Q: Favorite Movie(s) or type of movies?
A: Love the Laurel and Hardy stuff (they were the best). Also like the old fashion horror flicks (not too gory, just plain ol "scare the heck out of you" stuff). I also get a kick out of old B-Westerns (you know, the type where every hero has twenty rounds in his six-shooter).
Q: Favorite type of music?
A: 60'S Rock and Roll, Classic Country (just love the "cry in your beer" music, especially ballads by Willie Nelson). Also love good Bluegrass, and good gospel music.
Q: Favorite High School Memory?
A: That terrific band. They were absolutely fantastic !!!!! Also enjoyed the drag-racing on Speaker Road, sooooo cool. Griff's (I was one of the ones behind the counter with the red bowtie and paper hat). Football games and necking in the parking lot with my favorite girl(oops, told on myself with that one). Oh, to be young again----. Maybe the question should be "favorite memories" instead of "favorite memory". It was a wonderful time in my life.
