After graduation from Emporia State University, I taught six years in the Shawnee Mission District, then moved to Lawrence High School. I returned to graduate school, earning a Ph.D. from the University of Kansas, after which time Nancy and I moved to Philadelphia where I was a professor at Temple University for six years. On behalf of the State Department, I worked in India in 1971.
The Governor of Pennsylvania appointed me as director of a state commission after which I was the director of the Pennsylvania Commission of State Colleges and University under Governor Thornburgh.
In 1976 I served as chairman of the education committee during the Pananamian Treaty negotiations. I also served as an exchange university administator at the University of St. Thomas in Bogota, Colombia.
In 1982 I became assistant to the president of Nova Southeastern University, a private university of about 25,000 students. In 1986 until 2001, I served as an administrator in the Graduate School of Business and professor of accounting and finance. Upon retirement I was honored as Professor Emeritus.
Currently, I mentor at-risk high school students in Fort Lauderdale, serve as vice-president of the regional health planning council. I also served as chairman of the health and human services council of Broward county, as a member of the State of Florida Council appointed by the late Governor Chiles.
I have published about 60 scholarship articles and contributing author to two books on health policy.
Fortunately, I still play baseball and even manage a bunch of old guys, many of whom are retired cops from New York City. That keeps me busy with issues of law and order. For the past five years I have attended the New York Yankees Fantasy Baseball Camp in Tampa where I play ball with a lot of former Yankees, including Al Downing, Mickey Rivers, Tommy John, Jesse Barfield, and Chris Chambliss. In November 2009 I was inducted into the Camp's Hall of Fame.
Nancy, a retired physical therapist, and I have three children and six grandchildren who range from age two to 21. All are in good health. We are blessed with good health and a loving church family.
